So it is a week into my medical leave. On the one hand not much has happened, but on the other hand things are progressing. Not sure how to classify that. Friday was my first treatment and it was a no-go. I woke up from anesthesia and the doctor (whom I love) told me that they weren't able to administer the treatment. They put me to sleep but weren't able to get me relaxed enough to administer the treatment. I was MEGA disappointed. I mean, an IV for NOTHING?!?! I am not a fan of needles, like AT.ALL!!!!! But then I had two full days to recoup and get ready for Monday.
The weekend was nice, I think. Honestly I don't really remember it all that well. But Monday came and we went in and the nurse who was in charge of starting the IV wasn't able to find a vein on the left side (which, FYI, they NEVER have trouble with when I need a blood test or am donating blood). He went back to the right side and got it going fairly easily. This time the doctor was able to administer everything and it was deemed a success. Thank goodness. Enter Wednesday, and woah mama!!!! The same nurse was unable to start an IV either on the left side OR the right side. And he jabbed me twice. They called in the big guns, a nurse from a different unit who specializes in starting IVs. She was unable to start it on the left side, after jabbing me in a VERY painful spot right above my thumb. She moved to the right side and thank the good Lord she was able to start it. So all in all I was stabbed four times before they had a viable IV line. The moral of the story is to make sure you drink a TON of water the night before!!!! I thought I had been diligent about drinking but obviously I had not been. Lesson learned.
Each morning of a treatment day I come home and promptly take a good long nap. Today was rather abbreviated, which I guess means they got the level of anesthesia just about right. I'm still foggy about what all happened, but I think that is for the best.
The biggest news to come to me today was in the form of an email, from Ali Edwards. Her "Week In The Life" posts are going to be starting very soon. I am trying to remember to document my weeks so I can join in, but man let me tell you, it is hard to remember to take a picture with everything I do. Especially since I'm not doing all that much each day. Speaking of which, I just took a picture of me sitting here at Peet's. The weather is absolutely delicious!!! The sun is shining but we are sitting at a table with an umbrella shade. I could eat this weather up!!!!!
I'd love to hear what your favorite things to do outside in such gorgeous weather is, if you care to share.
